While welcoming action being taken against land-grabbers across the State, Puthiya Thamizhagam president K. Krishnasamy has appealed to the Tamil Nadu Government to initiate stringent action against individuals and firms that were involved in the “social evil of land grabbing”.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Dr. Krishnasamy said several thousands of acres of land, illegally grabbed by a multinational company in Ottapidaaram area through a middleman, had been stopped after the action against the land grabbers started in Tamil Nadu.
Moreover, electricity generation units coming up on the outskirts of Tuticorin had also purchased vast stretches of land through illegal means which also should be probed.
“Hence, the State Government, which is taking action against the politicians and other individuals based on the cases pertaining to land grabbing, should also take action against the companies that had bought several thousands of acres of land from the poor through coercive means and retrieve the lost properties back to the actual owners,” he noted.
The PT leader, while urging the government to ban the uncontrolled withdrawal of groundwater by the companies for commercial purposes, appealed to the Tamil Nadu Government to accord due importance to the rainwater harvesting also as being popularised during its previous tenure.
He criticised Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers M.K. Alagiri for going to Palayamkottai Central Prison to visit his associates in the car carrying the national flag and red beacon.
